Alternative Fashion Show Program
February 13, 2007
Hi, everyone,
Here’s a great teen idea–an Alternative Fashion Show. See http://www.yalibrarian.com/ and scroll to bottom for more details on Fayetteville Library’s successful show. You might contact Marist College Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising Dept. to see if some of the students would help you with this. Be sure to watch the video to see the bubble wrap hat, box skirt and my favorite–the slide skirt! MK

Yes, we agree it’s a great idea and we are going to do it! Teens at the Marlboro Library will put on their show at 7 pm on Friday, March 7, 2008. Everyone is invited. Just call the library to let us know you’re coming (need to have enough chairs, etc.). We even took your idea and contacted the folks at Marist. Got questions? Contact Susan Tumminia at susan@marlborolibrary.org

We did it! Check out a video clip Sue Scott created on our website. It was a HUGE success. Many attendants, lots of good publicity (two local papers and Cablevision) and we got a camcorder with $$ donated by the Friends of the Library to record it for posterity. The best part was the fun the kids had modeling their creations. They want to do another one in 6 months! NO WAY. I have to shout out to staff who transformed the library, learned to cue the music using iTunes, and helped in lots of small details. Sue S., Sue T., Christina, Diane D., Maria and Catherine for cheering on the kids. When staff comes to an afterhours library event, you know it rocks!
We also had assistance from patrons who donated help with make-up, hair, etc. We also had 9! volunteers from the Marist Fashion Dept. and Reilly the Maltese puppy who stole the show.

Great job, Marlboro! This looks like such fun for everyone, even though I know staff and kids did a lot of work. Hope you can build on that enthusiasm with the kids to do some other cool things–if not another fashion show. How about Open Mic Night? Less work, more kids might be interested.

We actually did the Open Mic programming a year before the fashion show and the high school co-opted it but that’s OK because they had more room and it was easier to get the word out. We may revisit it. It went over very well.
